Who is responsible

Velvet Attic Jinx Limited is the controller for personal information handled in connection with this website and its editorial correspondence. Our registered office and contact details appear below. For a privacy request, email [email protected] with “Privacy” in the subject.

What the website processes

Our page scripts do not install analytics, advertising trackers or account identifiers. Ordinary website delivery may involve technical access data, such as an IP address, request time, requested file, browser information and error details, handled by hosting or security infrastructure for delivery and protection.

The contact composer reads the name, email, subject and message you enter only to construct a preview in the current page. It does not submit that content to a server or save it in localStorage. Reloading or leaving the page may discard the draft, subject to your browser’s own form-restoration behaviour.

Copying, downloading and sending

“Copy message” asks your browser to place the prepared text on your device clipboard. “Download .txt” creates a local text file through your browser. Those copies remain under your control and may be accessible to other software or users of your device. Use care on shared devices.

If you send us an email using your own application, we receive the message, your email address and any information or attachments you choose to include. Your email provider also handles that transmission under its own terms. Do not send sensitive personal data unless it is necessary and you have first discussed an appropriate method with us.

Purposes and legal bases

We use correspondence to answer questions, investigate corrections and maintain relevant editorial records. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating and improving an informative publication and responding to people who contact us. Essential technical processing supports our legitimate interests in secure and reliable website delivery. Processing required by law relies on the applicable legal obligation.

If a separate optional activity requires consent, that consent must be obtained for that activity. You may withdraw consent without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing based on it. We do not sell personal information or use correspondence for unsolicited marketing.

Recipients, transfers and retention

Hosting, security and email providers may process information needed to supply their services. Information may also be disclosed where legally required or necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Where a provider processes personal data outside the European Economic Area, applicable transfer requirements must be met, such as an adequacy decision or appropriate contractual safeguards.

We retain correspondence only for as long as reasonably needed to handle the enquiry, preserve a relevant editorial correction record or meet legal obligations. Technical records should be retained only as needed for operational and security purposes. The appropriate period depends on the purpose and any applicable legal requirement; you may ask about information relating to your own correspondence.

Your rights

Subject to applicable conditions, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your personal data. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity before acting on a request. We generally respond within one month, with any lawful extension explained where necessary.

You may complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission or another competent supervisory authority. Contacting us first is welcome but is not a condition of exercising that right.
