Cookies and similar storage

A cookie is a small item of data a website can ask a browser to store and return with later requests. Browser storage technologies such as localStorage can also retain information between visits, but do not work in exactly the same way. Non-essential analytics and advertising technologies generally require consent before use where applicable law requires it.

The editorial pages and their scripts

The editorial page scripts do not set cookies, write contact drafts to localStorage or install analytics or advertising trackers. Navigation state and reveal animation state exist only in the current page. The pages do not embed external videos, social widgets or remote fonts.

Technical services used to deliver or protect a website may operate separately from its editorial scripts. Any consent interface presented for optional technologies should describe those technologies and let you make a choice before they are used. Refusing optional technologies should not prevent reading the guides.

The contact tools

Draft and preview
Held in the current page, not intentionally saved by our script. Your browser may independently restore form fields.
Copy message
Places text on your device clipboard after you press the button and the browser permits access.
Download .txt
Creates a text file for your device. It is not a cookie and remains until you remove it.
Browser cache
Your browser may cache page files and photographs as part of normal browsing, depending on its settings and server instructions.

Managing your choices

Use your browser’s site settings to inspect and delete cookies and other site data, control clipboard permissions or clear cached files. Browser interfaces vary; consult the help for your specific browser. Clearing site data does not remove a file you downloaded, an email you sent or text already copied elsewhere.

If a consent control is displayed by the website’s delivery platform, use that control to review optional choices. Browser-level deletion may also remove a stored preference, which can cause a consent request to appear again. Blocking JavaScript disables the local preview, copy and download tools but does not prevent reading the articles.

External websites

Following a manufacturer or reference link takes you to a separate website. Its cookies and storage practices are governed by its own information and controls, not this page. No third-party website needs to be opened to read our guides.
