Observation before mythology
Velvet Attic Jinx is an independent informative website about limited-production writing instruments. Our subject includes edition records, nib construction, decorative finishes and the physical evidence of making. We are not a pen shop, auction service or authentication laboratory.
The cabinet metaphor is deliberate. Each guide is a drawer containing a different kind of evidence. Opening the edition drawer should not make the material drawer unnecessary. A pen’s scarcity, writing behaviour, finish and repair history deserve separate descriptions before they are brought together.
A careful description leaves room for another reader to disagree with the preference, without losing the facts.
Three kinds of statement
- Documented
- A claim linked to a maker’s specification, catalogue, service record or other identifiable source.
- Observed
- A physical feature or result described with its inspection conditions and limits.
- Preferred
- A personal response to balance, feedback, line shape or appearance—not a universal quality score.
What we do not promise
We do not promise future values, authenticate individual pens remotely or provide a universal cleaning recipe. An image cannot disclose every repair, hidden material or mechanical issue. Our guides are starting points for better questions, not substitutes for model-specific instructions or hands-on specialist assessment.
Manufacturer and workshop names appear for identification and further research. Velvet Attic Jinx is not affiliated with or endorsed by the pen manufacturers named on this site. Brand names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
Sources and corrections
We favour primary manufacturer information for specifications and production claims. Historical catalogues, attributed service records and established conservation resources can add context. Where an exact composition or process is not documented, we say what remains uncertain instead of filling the gap with a familiar collector phrase.
If you notice an error, please identify the page, quote the relevant sentence and provide a source that can be checked. A clear correction improves the cabinet for every reader. Use our editorial message composer to prepare your note.
